Brasswell Culvert Refurbishment

Project sector Rail
Project name Brasswell Culvert Refurbishment
Project summary Refurbishment and relining the existing culvert
Client name Network Rail
Project date Jul-12
Project duration 4 weeks

The works included sleeving the existing culvert with a 450mm diameter pipe, then grouting the void between the new pipe and the existing masonry culvert.

The collapsed masonry was removed from the culvert outlet, and a new manhole was installed. The pipe sleeving and manhole construction were undertaken during a ’54-hour Blockade’.

Temporary works were installed before repair works could begin at the outlet. New headwalls were constructed in engineering brick at the culvert inlet to retain the existing embankment and protect against further erosion.

As part of the Network Rail Civils Infrastructure Repairs Contract, Brasswell Culvert was refurbished and repaired.
