Port Glasgow Platform Refurbishment

Project sector Rail
Project name Port Glasgow Station Platform Improvements
Project summary Removal and reconstruction of both station platforms
Client name May Gurney
Project date Feb-09
Project duration 20 weeks

Both platforms measured 220m in length. The requirement was to remove and reconstruct all the platform components, including copers, tactile paving, oversail blocks, surface water drainage, bituminous surfacing and lineside boundary fencing.

At locations along the platforms, the existing platform riser walls were taken down and rebuilt with engineering brick to replace defective masonry and infill redundant service voids.

The works were carried out under Rules of the Route possessions. It was a contract requirement that the platforms were returned to service and made fit for passengers use, every day.

The contract involved the full refurbishment of both platforms 1 and 2 at Port Glasgow Station.
